"Slot Music" To Replace CD'S?

I read this article whereby this new product will be replacing CD'S.
Would you buy it?

Do you still use CD'S?

I personally like having a hard copy (CD) myself.

I agree with you.

Why not? Some of us already put stuff on USB storage. I have a card and a card reader (the card is for my camera)...

The only problem will be those that want to play CDs in their CD player in the car or stereo, but perhaps they can burn them from the card to a CD?

A memory card is no less a hard copy than a CD. Just a different format :)

it makes for easier storage... being smaller and all...

but I wonder if it is too small. how do you catalog something so small you cant read whats on it?

I rarely, if ever, use CD's on my computer anymore. Just about everything goes on my thumb drives. I have several - one for church stuff (power point), one for Emmaus stuff, one for my kids stuff, etc., etc.

I DO however make alot of DVD's using my computer. But then, that's my job. I make the funeral DVD's for our local mortuary :)

I have been buying DRM-free MP3's from Amazon.com recently. All your buying there is the file itself.

The big benefit so far with owning the physical CD is that you really are getting the best sound quality. Even high bit-rate MP3's still cannot quite match a lossless digital format.

They should give you options like to download it in Wave...for those with high bandwith

BTW I had a friend years ago that postulated based on how big "ram" was getting that it could over take HDs..

Well HDs are at a terabyte now, but it would be cool to have those little SD drives upwards of 300 gigs and use it as a portable hard drive. You can have XP installed on one. Linux on another or whatever. Just boot up from it

I have an 8 gig thumb drive which plugs into a usb slot in my car stereo... I don't buy cd's anymore.... the trade-off is making sure you archive the files in case your hard drive ever crashes... for that I mirror all my drives and also periodically back them up to an external USB drive.
