I never thought Reagan was a Christian or saved or anything.

I wouldn't have called him "godless", but Christian is not the first word that comes to mind when discussing former President Reagan.

from what I understand he was considered christian by many, I might be wrong.

It seems that in this day and age -- if someone goes high in politics that have almost had to get their hands dirty.
