SIGNS OF RECESSION! Sales of SPAM Higher than ever
AUSTIN, Minn. — The economy is in tatters and, for millions of people, the future is uncertain. But for some employees at the Hormel Foods Corporation plant here, times have never been better. They are working at a furious pace and piling up all the overtime they want.
Through war and recession, Americans have turned to the glistening canned product from Hormel as a way to save money while still putting something that resembles meat on the table. Now, in a sign of the times, it is happening again, and Hormel is cranking out as much Spam as its workers can produce. read the rest of the story here: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/11/15/business/15spam.html |

I can eat it with crackers - sort of like Liverwurst. I can't eat it as an entree.

If you try it in things, it can be awesome! We cook with it at least once a month, in hard times or when we had plenty. I don't even want to know what's in it, because I'm sure it's horrible for you. LOL! We cook a dish with Spam cubes and green beans that my kids literally grew up on about once a week. We all love the taste!
We grew up eating it fried with scrambled eggs. Eddie's family grew up eating it in everything, because in the jungles, they ate all canned meats. It was either that or monkey! So they ate Spam in lots of stuff. Eddie's mom even puts it in gumbo, and you would never know it, but it's a cheap "filler". |

Several points...
1. (Stephen Hoover) One might be surprised what one might eat as an entree when the economic conditions hit a certain point. :) 2. StMark... SIGNS of a recession? That's like saying there are signs that I am overweight. Done deal bro... How about signs of a depression? 3. Yeah... good ole spam. Spam salad sandwiches. Fried spam sandwiches. Spam with eggs as was mentioned before. Good ole versatile spam. 4. Shocker here folks... there are non "name brand" versions of spam. Imagine that... a cheap knockoff of spam. LOL See... now you done gone and flung a cravin' on me... I am now frying up a cheap knockoff of spam for a pan seared "spam" sandwich. :) |

I have no idea why he likes that. He doesn't buy it all the time, but yuck - it looks like heart attack food! If I go to the store I won't by anything I don't want him to eat. He has to drive there and get it himself. :toofunny |
