Christmas Spirit

Just an off take from another thread I started that got me thinking.

It was said that we want to play music that represents the "true" Christmas Spirit.

Now the easy answer is that is the spirit of Jesus Christ and His birth in order to bring Love and Peace to this world and salvation to mankind.

Is there happiness in there some where ? I would think so.

What is your thoughts if I were to ask:

How would you describe "The Spirit of Christmas" ?

Personally, I like to focus on peace more than joy. I recently preached a message where I discussed this and the lack of true peace (the absense of inner conflict) in our world and even in the church. We sing about Jesus bringing joy but the Bible calls Him the Prince of Peace. When the angels sang at his birth, their immediate message was "glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace... I just feel strongly that Peace is under attack and that somehow we need to take it back.

I agree, we rejoice at his birth as they did back then. But we all seem to want peace for our souls. And only Jesus can provide that.

Re: Christmas Spirit

Hhmmmm, I might have to disagree with you on this one.

The Holy Spirit was born in the flesh. Manifested in Jesus Christ.

Matthew 1
18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.

The birth of the Spirit in the flesh was to have brought about:

Matthew 2
10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.

Luke 2
10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, 14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will (love)toward men.

The baptism of the same Holy Spirit which we are reborn in also brings about:

Romans 14
17 For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost

Romans 5
5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

Romans 10
15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

These are the same feelings displayed this time of year. The powerful thing that gets me is that at this time of year these same qualities are displayed by those who are not filled with the Holy Spirit. We see several instances in the Bible where the Holy Spirit "come upon" one in order to fulfill a task .

I believe the Spirit of Christmas that celebrates the birth of our Saviour, just by evidence of its fruits, is one in the same. People who otherwise would not give a second thought take on a feeling not only of peace and joy themselves but a desire to share it with others. Even more so, not only on one 25th of December but it seems to last for a season.

Re: Christmas Spirit

Mass of Christ, aka christmass, has little to do with the Spirit.

Yes, Jesus was birthed into this world, but past pagan customs of idol worship does not come by the Spirit of God.

Who said anything about past pagan customs and idol worship ?

show me one place in my post that even hints at what your saying.

TRUE Christmas Spirit ... not talking about the Mass of christ (what ever that is) Im talkin about the Spirit that seems to present itself when we get into the season that celebrates the birth of Christ.

I wasn't impying your post mentioned them things. Truth remains spirit of the mass of Christ has nothing to do with Gods spirit.

maybe you should do a little study how christmass came about then you know about mass of christ.

uummm, no.

because the pagan part of this time of year (no matter we call it Christmas or not) was not the intention of this thread. I understand and agree with your argument , thing is, it has no counter on this thread.
