Educated Less Likely to Divorce than Evangelicals
I read an article today in Christian Century magazine that was called Educated for Marriage by Tim Stafford. I tried to find it online but couldn't. Anyway it said that college graduates were less likely to divorce than Evangelical Christians. He said something like 16% of college grads divorce and Evangelicals are 1 in 2. He said that money stresses (because evangelicals were less likely to make a lot of money) along with getting married younger were factors. I thought this was very interesting.
Also, on a related note, I watched Raising Cain, a documentary on boys and education the other day. They interviewed kids in the Bronx and obvioulsy, none had a father figure but when they asked the yuppie kids who were on the football team how many of their parents were still together, all of them raised their hands. In the article I mentioned, it said that evangelicals teach that people become more secular with college but that in reality, more educated people are staying married, maybe not for religious reasons, but staying married for practical ones. |

Re: Educated Less Likely to Divorce than Evangelic
I am not an evangelical (whatever that is), nor am I college educated, I have been married a long time. I would imagine a lot of the so called educated are staying together for the money and prestige. This is just my opinion and is not backed up with any facts. So big whoop dee do at another chance to compare christians to the world.
Were any of the educated also evangelical's? |

Well in effect it is just kind of a dig at evangelical's to me. Implying they are uneducated and ignorant. And that money and education hold marriages together.

Without speaking to the findings themselves I do think many marriages fail due to people getting married at too young an age. I consistently tell my son not to even THINK about getting married until he's out of college and working full-time for two years, approx 25 yrs old or so.
