Thoughts on Psalm 23
 

I'm not sure who sent me this but I thought I would pass it on.


Twenty-third Psalm Explained

We probably haven't thought about it nor looked at this Psalm in this
way, even though we may say or pray it often.

The Lord is my Shepherd
----- that's Relationship!
I shall not want
----- that's Supply!
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures
---- that's Rest!
He leadeth me beside the still waters
-----that's Refreshment!
He restoreth my soul
----- that's Healing!
He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness
----- that's Guidance!
For His name sake
----- that's Purpose!
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death
----- that's Testing!
I will fear no evil
----- that's Protection!
For Thou art with me
----- that's Faithfulness!
Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me
----- that's Discipline!
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies
-- --- that's Hope!
Thou annointest my head with oil
----- that's Consecration!
My cup runneth over
----- that's Abundance!
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life
---- that's Blessing!
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord
----- that's Security!
Forever
----- that's Eternity!

I reflect often on the part that says..........He restoreth my soul. I came to the conclusion that it is like it was before sin entered. So He does not see a sinful soul any longer. Our souls are the way He intended them to be.

And my favorite song is........It Is Well With My Soul.

I look at verse one, "I shall not want" as a command and not a promise.

Stop and think about it for a moment. Do you know any Christian, any ministry, any person who does not have a "want."

I am a big time "God supplies my needs" person but as I have found there are always needs. As the scriptures tell us, "the just shall live by faith."

The area that I think so many miss it is in being content with what you have, which is far different than be complacent.

Anyway, The Lord is my Shepherd and because He is my Shepherd and is leading my life then I need to not want anything outside of what He is leading me into.

In the 1960 Reina Valera Bible (Spanish) Psalm 23:1 says:
"Jehova' es my pastor; nada me faltara'" which could be translated (if I remember my high school Spanish from 50 some years ago)
"Jehovah is my shepherd, I will lack nothing" or "nothing will be lacking to me."

The Amplified Bible says:
"The Lord is my Shepherd [to feed, guide, and shield me], I shall not lack."

The Message says:
"God, my shepherd! I don't need a thing. "

The Living Bible says:
"Because the Lord is my Shepherd, I have everything I need!"

Young's Literal Translation says:
"Jehovah [is] my shepherd, I do not lack,"
