would you go to law against anyone?

I know you may be surprized by this question and their are many ways no doubt it can be answered. However what are you thoughts about taking someone to law?
When does someone cease to be your brother or sister?

If someone was threatening me in any way I would not hesitate in getting a restraining order.

If someone threatened a family member, I would act even quicker -or bypass 'the law' entirely. :)

Things get a bit tricker when dealing with financial matters such as someone cheating you or taking something then not paying. I would judge everyone of these situations as a case-by-case, but going to the law or courts would be the LAST thing I would do after other options were explored.

When they rip me off?:hmmm

J/K I think we are never to go to law against a brother or sister & I have even felt restrained by God when a good old sinner heathen has ripped me off!

Sometimes we have to bear an injustice no matter the cause.

I have. I would again.

It's no fun, it's expensive, it's miserable and stress inducing. But yeah, I'd do anything to protect my kids.

Go ahead and sue sister Alvear. You are thinking about it and are looking for justification. Just do it.

Good thread.

What if a 21 yr old in your congregation pursued and had sexual intercourse with your 15 yr old daughter ?

Who shall I sue?

I think that under certain circumstances I'd be hard pressed not to take a brother or sister before the law. However, I must be honest, I believe that Paul's admonishion not to take a brother or a sister before the law and the courts is in keeping with the concept of Christian forgiveness. If we are wronged, no matter how severe, I think the Christian idea is that we forgive...no matter how difficult it may be to do so.

That comes under taking the law into your own hands.
