Scriptures predicting 1st coming?
 

Hello all, I am looking for a comprehensive list of all the Old Testament scriptures that refer to the First Coming of Jesus. I am doing a study, and would like to go through all of these, but though I keep hearing and seeing the references to all of the scriptures there are, and all the prophecies he fulfilled, I can't seem to find a list of them all.

If anyone could point me in the right direction, I would appreciate it.

I found this site by doing a Google search and saw that it has what appears to be a comprehensive list of the passages that you asked for: I'm not familair with the site or it's authors. There are several other site that provide such a list. The Thompson Chain Bible and many other resources have them as well.

One thing to remember: Jesus didn't come just to fulfill "prophecy" but to fulfill Scripture. Thus, there are many types and patterns from the OT like the Passover lamb to be considered that don't come right out and state they are making a "prophetic" prediction.

Also, you have cases like Matthew 2:15. Here Matthew says Jesus "fulfilled [the word] which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet..." However, the word "which was spoken by the prophet" in Hosea 11:1 was actually an historical reference and not a prophecy in the general sense.

I read that there are "60 major prophecies" that were fulfilled by Jesus' first coming. That is what I am sort of looking for.

Basically, I am wanting to compare the 1st coming prophecies with the 2nd coming prophecies, and see how different they are in clarity or "obviousness." For my own studies.

According to some, there are as many as 300. Given the nature of "prophecy" and "fulfillment" the lists vary. Many of the Jewish people of the first century weren't looking for a Messiah who would fulfill a list of strict requirements. They were looking at their Bibles (or Tanakh) for a Messiah that would fit a particular pattern. They didn't read their Bibles the way a modern Fundamentalist does. They allegorized and looked for hidden meanings in the words of the Law and the Prophets.

Why not take an electronic Bible likke E-Sword and do a search for the word "fulfilled" in the book of Matthew. Matthew is the Gospel that makes the most use of prophetic fulfillment. Note each occurence and use your study Bible's references to look up the corresponding Old Testament passages. Or you can use E-Sword's add on called Treasury of Sriptural Knowledge. This is like a reference Bible on steroids. R.A. Torrey compiled these cross references about 100 years ago and it's a great resource (despite Torrey being the guy who virtually invented modern Fundamentalism).

The count down is to the End Of The World As We Know it (or EOTWAWKI). This will occur on December 21, 2012, and has been confirmed by NASA scientists. Sort of.

Of course you don't endorse them. I've heard that you just sit there on that couch and won't even get up to answer the door when the boys in suits and bicycle helmets ring your door bell.
