Upgraded my MacBook Pro! EASY!!

I wanted to upgrade my hard drive from a 200gb 7200rpm to a 320 gb 7200rpm. Was worried about the warranty void since it is not a user replaceable part. Apple verified it for me.

However, blogs convinced me that it was fairly easy and that if you did it right, an Apple tech probably would not void the warranty. So, armed with ifixit.com pictorial directions, the right tools and a $79 new hard drive, I pulled it off. First I used Carbon Copy (sharewared) and cloned the drive flawlessly. Made sure it would boot and then dissected my precious MacBook Pro! Took my time, used the right tools and voila!! It booted up and I made the switch in about 15 min!!!

Data transfer is twice as fast as the old one. I LOVE Macs!!!! :D

I changed a hard drive in one of our macbooks at work last week. It was fairly easy to do -although I was glad I had directions from Apple since I don't think I would have been able to figure it out without them.

Why did I change it? It died!

"But..... but...... This is Apple! Their hardware is designed by God Himself!"

Nope. Their hardware suffers the same problems that are HP's and Lenovo Thinkpads do. The only thing that is nice is that since we are a school, Applecare is VERY easy to work with and gets stuff repaired or replaced very promptly. With Lenovo it is like pulling teeth.

The MacBook hard drive is user replaceable. The MacBook Pro is not. I know AppleCare can be tricky.........even "god" doesn't always deliver as expected! :D LOL

When we call and mention the fact that we are a school there is this instant sense that the white glove treatment starts. Almost like a butler at a fancy hotel. But hey, it really makes my job easier!

I'm thinking about putting a bigger hard drive and DVD-R in my MacBook.

My desktop has a boatload of free bays in it.

By the way, I am a HUGE fan of the ever popular desktop PC!
