difference between a burden and a calling
I read this thought I would share it with you all...
There is a vast difference between a burden and a calling to the mission field. A person with a burden will respond to a need and be emotionally involved in a particular cause. It usually lasts only for a season or until the person is confronted with an obstacle. He or she eventually fizzles out. The one who has a calling not only has a burden, but there is a passion that goes with it. That passion never goes away even in the face of adversities and oppositions. He or she will literally go through hell to carry out the calling that is in his or her heart. Like Apostle Paul, the one with a calling will cry out, "Woe is me if I preach not the Gospel." In the face of danger and even death, he or she will declare, "But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God." |

Re: difference between a burden and a calling
I guess I just have a burden, since I can't go..........but I hope it never fizzles out.
And thank the Lord, I do get to go for short term things. That helps! |
Re: difference between a burden and a calling
Sherri...YOUR love and burden will never fizzle out!
I think this was talking about people that run around saying they are called to the field and the first trial they run back home... You are a blessing to the mission field.... |

Re: difference between a burden and a calling
I have seen pastors invest thousands and thousands of dollars in people that were not missionary material...people that wanted a free lunch...people that were to lazy to work or had some hang up in the states...
That is one of the reasons I think churches should work close with leadership...I have seen a lot of shipwreck... I think the article I read was refering to things like that. |

Re: difference between a burden and a calling
I think passion has a lot to do with it. If I didn't have a passion to pastor, no way I would do it! It is my calling to lead people. I have done it no matter what has happened. I have done it when others have bailed. I don't do it for the income or the "fame!" LOL
