Yearly Bible Reading - B.R.E.A.D - and other stuff
Ok, so who here reads there bible through each year?
Do you use the B.R.E.A.D. chart? If not, what do you use? Do you think listening to the bible in an audio format counts? I am reading my bible through this year and it's weird (in a good way) - its like I'm addicted, or obsessed. I am already done with May according to the BREAD chart but actyally have been using my "90 day" bible. ((Its a bible that you are supposed to read 12 pages each day and you'll have the whole thing read in 90 days)) I've added the NT and Psalms to my daily reading to keep up with the BREAD chart - for accuracy. It wasnt necessary to purchase this "90 day" bible as there is nothing special about it, it doesnt even break down the days, it's a regular KJV bible with the same # of pages as one of my other bibles...when I discovered this, I started using my NLT bible.... Now, speaking of versions - do you think it matters which version you read? I've found some of them to be TOO vague but I do refer to other versions when I'd like something explained..."The Message" version, actually creeps me out - If you ever get a chance to see it, take a look at Proverbs - I think they took TOO much liberty in their intrepretation with "The Message"... And about "The Bible Experience"...I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my CDs. I try and follow along in my NKJV bible as the CDs are in the New NIV version, it's very close so not too hard to follow. I dont feel I can "count" it as reading if I only listen - but if I follow along, I count it. What do you do? If anything? Does anyone else have The Bible Experience? |

dont have the Bible Experience.
I use the One Year Bible....and like it very much. it is split out by days and if you follow it you actually read through the enitre Bible plus the book of Psalms twice. Each day you read a section from the OT, NT, Psalms, and a Proverb. When I preach I usually use the NIV....but I also use The Message. I personally like the descriptive voice of that the message. as far as audio books counting?? I'm not sure what you mean....who's counting? I think God is pleased whenever we read, to listen, or study His word in any fasion. |

And about the Message - I do refer to it sometimes, but found it's translation of many things to be so vague it was almost flippant. JMO tho... |

I read everyday but I don't know if it's from B.R.E.A.D.

I have my kids reading the children's B.R.E.A.D. program each morning before school. It's only a chapter a day for them. (In most cases)
I don't follow the B.R.E.A.D. program just because I've already done it several times, and now I just skip around and read whatever I'm currently interested in. I would count the audio Bible, as long as you're really listening to it. I couldn't do it, though, because my mind would wander, and all of a sudden it would be to the end, and I would think, "What did he just say????" LOL!!!! |

I do have to give kudos to the BIBLE EXPERIENCE - the way they have complied this audio bible is amazing - I dont want to turn it off when I'm listening - If I have it on in the car I dont want to get out - it really captures your attention, it's very well done. I just love it. |

It's a reading from a different genre each day. I found that if I read the Bible straight through, I usually quit around Leviticus and/or Numbers. But I've been able to stick with it and been blessed from it by doing it this way. This year I'm changing things up a little and using the M'Cheyne plan: http://hippocampusextensions.com/mcheyneplan/ I purchased a devotional book, For the Love of God, which follows this plan. It's written by an Evangelical teacher, D.A. Carson. In this plan you end up reading the NT twice and the OT once in a year. Quote:

I was going to listen to the Bible when I go to sleep at night, hoping it would get into my subconscious, but I haven't found an audio Bible on the internet that keeps going past a chapter or book at a time, so I don't have to get up to click the buttons to go to the next chapter or book. Quote:
I think you're doing great! Don't quit! |

Last night I was listening to it as I went to sleep, I was so tired and still I fought sleep for over an hour paying attention to the reading. Finally I gave in and went on to sleep. I read proverbs daily too, at least I TRY to - I think everyone should read Proverbs - daily even!! Lot of truth we need to be constantly reminded of... |

Yes! I am reading the bible through this year. The bread program has you skipping around this year, and since I didn't do it last year, I'm using last year's program.
I am really enjoying it! No matter how many times you read the bible, it seems there's always new things to learn. I asked the Lord to just open my heart and mind as I read. I want whatever He has for me! |
