Job Market Is Dead!

As most of you know I a m job hunting again.
Last week was my first week at cold calling a minimum 25 employers.
I made it.

Everyone was very polite to me but nevertheless was still told that they are not hiring, there is a hiring freeze, or they just let people go.

There are three jobs in particular I am interested in:

1. A home delivery milkman
2. City bylaw enforcement officer.
3 A local Police store's worker.

All three pay very well & have good benefits.

I am heading out cold calling again.:thumbsup

That's how it is here.

Cheap wages, no benefits, and jobs last 30-90 days. They use all temps to avoid having to provide benefits.

There have been layoffs everywhere-- including the fast food places. No one is hiring.

The company where my husband works is currently in the middle of a $30 million expansion project, which they claim will create jobs. In reality, they aren't making public that a large portion of current jobs will be automated in this expansion project. Meaning that they have to relocate 300 of the current employees before they can hire new ones.

They have laid off 20% of the office staff, and up to 3 years of the general laborers within the past month. The rumor is that if orders don't pick up, they will laying off employees with up to 5 years worktime soon.

Other factories are doing the same.

Unfortunately, even good temp jobs are tough to find.

Re: Job Market Is Dead!

Just popped in for a bit & thought I would check the Computer.
I did a bit better than yesterday, a few more encouraging people I spoke to let me know all hope isn't lost.

I went into a Locksmith to get some keys cut & mentioned offhand to the fellow that I have been interested in the Locksmith business, how does one get into it?
He said that there is on the job training.
I asked, are you hiring?
He said, yep!

I gave him my Resume & he will give it to the boss.
I went into Vancouver Bookbinding, a medium sized print shop & got to sit down with the owner for an interview.

He mentioned that I was very articulate & very professional in my manner & appearance.
He said he will speak to his management team & get back to me.:thumbsup

I am back to searching!
Thanks for the prayers!

Ron, why not go work in the oil industry? I read that it is very busy in that industry up there, but perhaps not where you live.

It is a long way from where I live & the recession has reached there as well.
There are massive lay offs there too.
