Monopoly on Apostolic Identity is no more ....
In the next few months, sources are confirming, that the big buzzword in some OP circles will be Apostolic Identity.
Some will be promoting this concept ... as to address some of the holiness dress standards that SOME apostolics have held throughout the years and the 3 step Water and Spirit doctrine that many (not all) held in the last century. Beginning with Chester Wright's letter to Kenneth Haney before last year's General Board meeting ... and the actions resolved at that meeting expect this year's North American Youth Congress and other venues to be saturated with a one-sided sanitized view of "Apostolic Idenitity". The Apostolic Report wrote about last year's meeting saying: Quote:
A close look at that speakers at this year's NAYC give a clear indication that some of the leadership within the org will roll up there sleeves. Quote:
On November 7-8, 2008, the Urshan Graduate School of Theology (UGST) hosted “Standing Together for Truth,” their annual symposium. An article written for Ninetyandnine.com describes Bernard's talks as follows: Quote:
Quote:
Our voices will not and cannot be silenced ... Sites like this one I hope will continue to give a balanced picture about our history, diversity ... and yes ... OUR IDENTITY. Come let us reason .... For such a time as this .... :heart |
Re: Monopoly on Apostolic Identity is no more ....
Sounds like a great plan. Emphasize inward holiness.

When is someone really going to get it that you can't legislate holiness?!?! Biblically explicit examples are one thing. But subjective, arbitrary interpretation and execution of principle-based ordinances upon the masses is not going to make anyone holy. Why can't they see that? |
Re: Monopoly on Apostolic Identity is no more ....
Well I don't know whats going on but I do know something is going on because my pastor is starting to talk about other upc churches and how they are starting to think on things diffrently he said that all the pentecostals should be call apostolics because pentecost was just a time and it is the apostolic doctrine that is taught. But he has mentioned other UPC churches in the past..

Re: Monopoly on Apostolic Identity is no more ....
I love the UPCI and the people in the UPCI, but I honestly have to say that I think they are frozen in time. It appears, and I know there are many in the UPCI that this doesn’t describe, but it appears that they are radically focused on their definition of external holiness which, in my opinion, is based on a 1950’s dress standard and a misinterpretation of I Corinthians 11 regarding hair. Their standard against television is laughable in this age of the internet and for the sheer fact that most members of the UPCI have televisions, though they call them “monitors”, or stream programming over the internet.
I love the UPCI, but I firmly believe she needs “reformation” and then she will see a “revival”. The old wineskin can’t hold what God wants to do in this last hour. I believe what makes us "Apostolic" is the Oneness of God and the Acts 2:38 experience. When it comes to holiness, emphasize modesty without extremes of fashion or style, and teach a holiness based on the Ten Commandments. That's my angle. God bless. |

The one thing that never changes is that things always change. They can't fight it forever.

I like how Bernard demonstrates that "greeting each other with a holy kiss" is cultural, but Hair, and dress isn't. :tic :gotcha |
Re: Monopoly on Apostolic Identity is no more ....
If the first century church thought like us and existed in continuity until this day.... we'd all still be wearing robes with inner and outer garments.
My wife's hair was past her backside and she got it cut this past Saturday. It now hits her just about her shoulder blades. For those who think it's short I'd like to ask... would it be okay if I wore my hair that long? What's nature teachin' ya? lol |
