I Choose to See The Glass Half Full
This morning we received word from corporate that there will be no merit increases for FY10 (our fiscal year begins in May). Also, the Executive Committee has decided to take a 5% pay decrease.
I'm just happy to have a job making the same thing I have for the past year. I'm sure others will see the glass half empty, but why? Shouldn't we be motivated and not unmotivated? I know I am. Knowing that layoffs could have been an option and still could be in the future wouldn't it be best to do your best now more than ever so that you are more valuable? I'm just thankful for my job and want to help others see the bright side of this. |
Re: I Choose to See The Glass Half Full
My company also announced they are foregoing merit pay increases this year. I should know in the next few weeks if I have a job or not!

Re: I Choose to See The Glass Half Full
They could have said the entire workforce would have to take a pay decrease or there would be layoffs-- so it could have been worse.
I'd be like you-- and just be thankful for the job. |
Re: I Choose to See The Glass Half Full
We're not getting any pay increases this year -but we ARE hiring a few new teachers for next school year (this coming Fall). Oh yes, and we're a private school with no federal funding.

You most definately have the right perspective.
I too am thankful for my job even though it hasn't given me a raise in 2 yrs. I look at the glass as being 2x's to big. |

They are talking about laying my husband off in April. :thumbsdown He would be the last person they would want to lay off, so I'm hoping and praying some things begin to change. |
Re: I Choose to See The Glass Half Full
As someone who has found themselves unemployed after working 20 years for my previous employer.... I would have gladly taken no pay raise or even a reduction in work hours as long as I could have kept my job...unfortunately for my company "Catholic Charities" that was not an option they even considered.
So definitely see the glass as half full if you at least have a job no matter what the situation. I've been looking for employment now going on 6 months and there is just nothing out there....:sad |
