" Murphy's law "

Monday - March 18, 2009 - 6:00 AM
The Alarm Clock Goes Off and I sleepily crawl out of bed and prepare to go to the hospital to have a MRI .

Yes, A Simple Quick OPEN MRI -

I took a quick shower, shaved and got dressed -
The bitter half had prepared a fresh pot of COMMUNITY COFFEE
and a nice hot breakfast -

The 45 minute drive was uneventful
and a parking space became available next to the entrance as we arrived -
Forms were filled out and signed,
Insurance and medical cards were presented a
and all was going REALLY WELL -

i was escorted back to the MRI room where I removed all things
that had metal in or on and emptied out my pockets

THEN IT HAPPENED -

MURPHY'S LAW COMPLETLY TOOK OVER !

I KID YOU NOT -

Attempt # 1 -
I Lay On That Table and the MRI started moving toward me
The bottom of the MRI machine hit my stomach
and would NOT go over it !

Attempt # 2 -
They backed it up and I got off of the table -
They then removed the 2" foam table pad {leaving on the 4" pad}
and we tried it again only to have the same results -

Attempt # 3 -
They replaced the 4" foam pad with the 2" foam pad
and it still wouldn't work -

Attempt # 4 -
They now have removed All Padding
and put a sheet on the table,
I now am laying flat on a cold metal table with a pillow under my head -
As The MRI comes over me I was told to take a deep breath
but the MRI seemed to crush me as it came down on me -

Attempt # 5 -
They moved it back to position me lower on the table
because they could not scan my upper back-
My feet and ankles were dangling off of that hard cold[ metal table
when The MRI approached me and hit the side of my HEAD -

Attempt # 6 -
They Removed My Pillow,
Put Me Lower On The Table with the calves of my legs
resting on the table end and they now pro ceded
I could see the MRI approaching on the right side of me -
I began to feel it Pressing Down On My Stomach a
nd as it FLATTENED MY NOSE , they told me to lay still !
So Still I Lay There
In Horrible Pain,
Breathing Thru My Mouth
with The Lower Part Of My Legs jist a danglin -

At The 22 Minute Mark
I Told Them That
I Had Reached My Limit
I Couldn't Breath Thru My Flattened Nose
AND
I Had Charley Horses In Both Of My Dangling Legs -

The Pain In My Back Was A 25
On A Scale Of 1 to 10

So

They Stopped The MRI
and it started moving about to my right
It only moved for about 2 " when I heard a couple of loud pops
THEN IT STOPPED
WITH ME STILL IN IT'S DEVILISH CLUTCHES

FOR 42 HOURS

I WAS HELPLESSLY STUCK THERE

as several workers disassembled and re assembled the MRI Roll Track !

AND TO THINK

IT WAS AN "OPEN MRI"
:sad:foottap

How was your day ?

disclaimer
{my wife says that I was only stuck there for 42 minutes}

It Seemed Like 42 Hours To Me, Really

I have degenerative disc disease.
When you have back pain, a lot
of times 1 minute equals 1 hour. :)

I had a patient come back from an MRI a couple of days ago and he kept complaining about the very loud "rat a tat tat" (like a jackhammer noise) he had to endure. I should copy this post and give it to him!!!

did they not give your patient earplugs to use? It does sound like a jackhammer in there without the earplugs. But the earplugs make all the difference in the world.

Bishop, I am a very large woman. VERY large. And I fit in an MRI machine just fine. I can't imagine what kind of machine they were using on you. After they couldn't make the thing work after removing all the pillows, I would have left and gone somewhere else. I can't imagine them having you dangle your legs like that. And crushing your nose!!! Good heavens!! What kind of idiots were working that day???? I am so sorry for you!
