Fasting

(spin off from one of Sam's threads)

A few questions about fasting:

Do you believe fasting is necessary for today's Christian?
What is the purpose?
Do you believe it's required, or just beneficial?
How often should we fast?
Why did the disciples not fast when Jesus was with them?

ABSOLUELY! The Bible tells us certain things come...only through fasting and prayer.

Quote:

What is the purpose?
To get us out of the way/our will so that He can move and accomplish things in us/through us.

Both! If you want to accomplish God's will in your life and affect change in other's lives then it is a must.

You should fast as much as you need to. That is individual.

Jesus answetred that himself when he was approached by Pharisees regarding this. He said: While the bridegroom is with them there is no need to fast, but when He is gone from them would be the time [paraphrased] from Matthew.

Re: Fasting

It bothers me the way people fast today. They fast a dessert, a meal, or a thing...Bro TLC said it best...Fasting is doing without food. The fasting done today is anemic; just like churches, just like leadership, and just like saints.
