Things to remember from Psalms 23

Share some of the things you've learned from this Psalm.... :D

Yea , though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death (vs.4) --- A Place of Plight!

"Thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me." The shepherd's rod is what protects the flock, and the staff is what corrects and guides the flock. We know that we have the provision of God's protection and correction. "Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over." (Psalms 23:5) A shepherd prepares a mountainside tablet for the flock to graze on, the oil protects the head (ears, nose) of the sheep, while a cup shows that there is sufficient water for the flock. The Great Shepherd is going to provide for our physical, mental, and spiritual needs. --- A Place of Provision!

"Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever." (Psalms 23:6) --- A Place of Promise!

• As we follow the Great Shepherd, He will take us from a place of plight, to a place of provision, to a place of promise!

The 23rd psalm....

Beneath me are green pastures...
Beside me are still waters...
Within me is restoration...
Upon me is the anointing oil...
Before me is the table...
And following me is his goodness and mercy...

Absolutely surrounded by the goodness of God!!!!

The Lord is my Shepherd ----- that's Relationship!
I shall not want ----- that's Supply!
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures ---- that's Rest!
He leadeth me beside the still waters ----- that's Refreshment!
He restoreth my soul ----- that's Healing!
He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness ----- that's Guidance!
For His name sake ----- that's Purpose!
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death ----- that's Testing!
I will fear no evil ----- that's Protection!
For Thou art with me ----- that's Faithfulness!
Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me ----- that's Discipline!
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies -- --- that's Hope!
Thou annointest my head with oil ----- that's Consecration!
My cup runneth over ----- that's Abundance!
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life ---- that's Blessing!
And I will ! dwell in the house of the Lord ----- that's Security!
Forever ----- that's Eternity!

I posted some on the blog a while back using this psalm...I won't bring it all here, but this is one of the things I have learned from Psalm 23...

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me...

The twins, known as Goodness and Mercy, shall follow me...I imagine them running close behind, right on my heels, present at my every move.

I don't have to seek for them or plead for them or wonder if they are there...because I have the Holy Ghost abiding within, the fruit of this is goodness and mercy.

"I shall not want"

"He restoreth my soul"

In the trial and dark valley - I shall not want.

When I get through the trial and dark valley - He restoreth my soul.

If Psalms 23 applies to you, then you are a sheep!
And that ain't bad if you are the Good Shepherds!

Just this week I told my Mom that when pastoring a church there are two main types of people
you come across: sheep and goats.... the 3rd group is obviously wolves in sheep clothing :drawguns

sheep are willing to be led and are content following their shepherd....
goats won't willingly follow and have to be driven to do anything....

notice that pastors are called to be shepherds, NOT goat herders....
one could easily become frustrated if they are not following that calling....
