Miss California: My Anti-Gay Marriage Answer "Cost Me My Crown"

Miss California Carrie Prejean says she believes her anti-same sex marriage stance hurt her chances of winning Sunday's Miss USA competition.

At the Las Vegas pageant, Prejean, 21, was asked by judge Perez Hilton how she felt about legalizing gay marriage. "In my country, and in my family, I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman," she replied. She later lost out to Miss North Carolina, Kristen Dalton.

"It did cost me my crown," Prejean said of her response on Monday's Billy Bush Show. "I wouldn't have had it any other way. I said what I feel. I stated an opinion that was true to myself and that's all I can do."

"It is a very touchy subject and [Hilton] is a homosexual and I see where he was coming from and I see the audience would've wanted me to be more politically correct," she added. "But I was raised in a way that you can never compromise your beliefs and your opinions for anything."

In an interesting twist, Prejean revealed that her sister supports same sex marriage.

"My sister is a second lieutenant in the Air Force and she is a gay rights activist," she said of her sib, who is not gay. "She supports gay people, she supports gay marriage. My beliefs have nothing to do with my sister or my mom, or whatever."

Her sister wasn't offended by her remarks at the pageant.

"She was just in my hotel room and she said, 'Sis, I'm not offended by anything that you said. We have two different opinions and I love you because of it. I love you because you stood up for what was right, and it's not a matter of being gay or not gay, it's a matter of you competing for Miss USA and getting a question and answering it to the best of your ability,''" she said.

Added Prejean, "That's what's so great about being an American - we're able to have our own opinions."

Despite all the controversy, "I feel like I won. I feel like I'm the winner. I really do," Prejean said, adding that she had 1,000 messages on Facebook and 2,000 friend requests.

Asked about rumors that she is dating Michael Phelps, she said, "He is a great man. Wouldn't you like to know, Billy Bush? We can talk about that a different day."

As for my opinion on this...

You know... This whole thing is getting out hand.

Flaming flamboyant and ludicrous characters such as Perez Hilton can rattle on obscenities and railing accusations and ridiculous commentary all day long but if someone expresses their personal beliefs and those beliefs are against his lifestyle then there is a backlash.

This entire gay agenda is getting completely out of control. As a matter of fact the entire Politically Correct thing is getting entirely out of control. I think it is getting about time that we break down some of these imaginary barriers. It is high time that there be an uprising against these thought police that rule our lives and, increasingly, our world.

This is America and we should be free to feel the way we feel, we should be free to say what we feel because we have reasons for the ways we feel and our feelings are as legitimate as anyone elses.

It is totally unbelievable that Perez Hilton is even up there much less able to have such a profound impact on someones life.

I am growing tired of the PC movement and living in fear about something that could even be construed as negative about this group or that group while they spew putrid revilement about people who would say anything negative, deserved or not, against their "protected" groups.

I cease being a homophobe.

I'm not afraid anymore.

A spade needs to be called a spade.

It's time that we put our foot down and call an end to this ignorance. I don't mean to go around and being full of hate ourselves... that is what they are full of toward us. That is why they want to control our thinking and our speech.

But homosexuality is sin.

These sinners can be saved and I hope and pray that they do.

But this avenue is only emboldening them to the point of controlling everyones thoughts that think differently than they.

When only transgressors can speak freely then only transgression will result.

What irritates me is the news media was down on the contestant for politicizing the event ... when all she did was answer a question posed to her by PH. HE was the one who politicized the event with the question. My bet is he knew the answer already and wanted to see if she would stand up to the question and stir up some "controversy."

Of course it was a loaded question and there was no way she could win. They don't care how she feels about it. I think it was all set up and they did it to try to boost their ratings. COME ON - California just voted against same sex marriage and all the attention it got - and it just SO HAPPENS that Miss California made it to the top 4 and it just SO HAPPENED that she gets a question about gay marriage. At least people are TALKING about the Miss USA pageant now - I did not know it was even on until the next day when I saw it all on the news. It go them what they wanted and Miss California should be outraged because she was used.
