With the creation of the internet, Facebook, and now Twitter, the way we (as a culture) receive information is quickly changing.

This presents the church with new opportunities to take advantage of the new technology to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Has your church created a facebook page? When your members sign up as friends to your church page, you can send instant announcements which they will receive on their blackberries or iphones.

With a twitter account, a pastor can have several "followers" of his daily thoughts and activities and receive feedback.

Are you taking advantage of this new technology?

We are. It's pretty amazing, really. Twitter and Facebook may seem like a waste of time to many, but they can really make even a large group of people feel like they're part of the inner circle. Words of encouragement from and to the pastor. Prayer requests distributed in an instant. Very cool stuff.

Yes, I'm taking advantage of it. I am on Facebook, MySpace and Twitter. Actually, I've been twittering since last year. I don't do it to extremes, but I do it. Another cool thing is that I just started running with my wife, Diane. She's been doing it for a couple of years. I haven't run for at least a couple of decades or more so I wasn't really excited about getting into it. However, (here's tech comes in) I was in one of my fav stores, Best Buy, and saw a Nike+ device on sale along with a pocket to hold it on your shoe laces. This device tracks your runs wirelessly through a receiver on your Ipod and gives feedback, while you're running listening to music. I thought that was cool and that it would be a good motivation to run with Diane. So I got it and calibrated it and use it. The really cool thing is that after a run, I hook up my Ipod with my MacBook Pro (said reverently) and it not only automatically syncs with the Nike+ web site but it also uploads a Twitter update posting my run, time etc. I have all kinds of people following me on Twitter...from people who attend NLC to people who follow me because of my Mac leanings to people who follow because of my running etc. It's pretty cool!

I also use Twitter to communicate when I am overseas. I love the technology. It is just one more avenue to communicate and make some difference in someone's life. You never know what doors may open up simply because someone follows you. It takes next to no time at all, so for me. it's not a time waster. It actually take MUCH less time than it does being on here! :D

Why is nobody seemingly concerned about the lack of privacy these new inventions are creating? I read more in the realm of liberal, progressive people on these privacy issues than conservatives anymore. Are we afraid of being called conservative? Our privacy is being offered on an altar of super-connectedness. I just heard on the radio last night that a texting is causing great distractions amongst our youth to the extent it is effecting their grades and concentration.

No one knows more about me than I'm willing to share, tweet or post. I have nothing to hide. :D
