JERUSALEM – An Israeli woman mistakenly threw out a mattress she said had almost $1 million inside, setting off a frantic search through tons of garbage at a number of landfill sites on Wednesday.

The woman told The Associated Press that she bought her elderly mother a new mattress as a surprise present on Monday — and threw out the old one.

I read this news story earlier today and just had to shake my head! I can only imagine how that woman's joy at surprising her mom with that new mattress turned to horror when her mom told her she had thrown away a million bucks.

The report I read said that they were looking in three different landfills where it possibly got taken by the garbage truck but with no luck so far. I wonder if one of the garbage guys didn't take the mattress home or sell it.

Someone probably picked it up by the side of the road from the trash and is sleeping on $1M - - BUT....since it hit the news they probably have already cut it open and got it out.

I think it was pretty stupid to let it be released in the news before finding it.
