Running my 1st 5K race!

My wife, Diane has been running for a couple of years and kind of invited me to run with her. Long story short is that I started using the Nike+ sensor to wirelessly connect to my Ipod. I started running on May 24 and have registered to run in a 5K race along with Diane and one other minister from NLC. I ran a 10K today and also on Sunday and cut 13 min of the 10K. I am currently at a 23 min 5K which is certainly not fast for a 5K, but not bad for 55yr old! I plan on taking home the 1st place medal for my age group. I think I can do it in 22 min. When I started running in May, my 5K time was 37 min.

I have lost 30 lbs since Oct of last year!

I guess I'm just a challenge junkie! LOL

Good for you! You are a great role model for your church of how to take care of your "temple."

Update:

Just finished! Didn't set a new PR, but still ran a 23:33 5K. Didn't even place! I got smoked by some really fast guys in the 55-59 age group. The 1st place in that group turned a time of just over 20 min I think.

Really bummed I didn't place, but really happy with my time although I would really liked to have turned a 22:00. There were a total of 243 runners and I placed 63rd overall. Again, not bad for an old man! LOL

We had at least 5 folks from NLC who ran.

You have just inspired an old man...well three years older than you. I need to drop 30 pounds.

I've dropped 30lbs since October with nothing but a change in diet. Just started running this May. I'm just about ready for the REAL speedos!! LOL

Atta boy, Timmy! NOW I can hear ya!

The main reason I post things like this is to hopefully inspire some others to "pull the trigger" on some things they desire to do. Goals are important to us and to the Lord, I believe. :D
