Ever done a fall bazaar at your church?

How did it go?

Did you offer to rent tables to outsiders?

Did you serve food also?

Did you do anything unique?

It's been over 10 years since I've been involved with a church fall bazaar, but for 12-15 years I helped with the bazaar in many ways. The ladies would meet each month (beginning about now) then down to once a week to work on joint craft projects as well as working on individual projects at home to donate to the bazaar. We had a bake sale, and made stew - The most unique item we ever had were handmade angels - when they sold like hotcakes, we stopped the bazaar at church and started taking them to craft fairs. over a period of four or five years, We sold over $30,000 in angels which was donated to the church in various ways. You have to be organized and put people where they work the best. We always had a good time and made money. Hard work and be willing to take what's donated without hurting someones' feelings. That was the hardest part - whatever was left over might be given back to the donor, or set aside for later sales. You have to work it out according to your group. Good luck if you decide to go that route.

We are looking at renting tables and letting the ladies and men sell their own items. We will rent them the table plus we will sell food and drinks.

Thinking about opening the renting of the tables to other churches as well.

Tell me more about your angels. :)

The angels were made with no faces, body filled with stuffing - wings and dresses were made from white cotton/poly blend - wings crimped in middle and trimmed with crochet lace - glued to back of dressed angel. the dress came down to a point in the front and back - with batenburg lace applique in front - dress trimmed in same lace as wings - hair made with spanish moss - finished angel measured about 8" - and used for ornaments - women bought them for secret pal gifts, bunco gifts - not unusual to sell a dozen at a time - $5.00 each - only way we could sell at the price is because all labor and alot of the material was donated. There were usually approx. 10 women working on them at one time - some liked making bodies, others sewing wings or making dresses. then we'd get together to assemble them. We also made a 20" angel that was usually put on top of Christmas tree - I have two hanging in my sewing room now. They were sold for $15.00 - They came in white or ecru - had a few made with old quilt scrap wings that sold well - It was a fun time!

Renting spaces are a good choice - but please preview first what they want to sell, especially if renting to outside folks! We did that a couple of times and had a form to fill out, and stipulated handmade only - keeps flea market items away unless you want that at your bazaar. And each booth was responsible for their own clean up - worked out great!

Reminds me of a story. I put an ad in the paper to sell the minivan, and my mom and dad were visiting at the time. I called home from work, and my mom answered. I disguised my voice and said, "Uh, yes, I'm calling about the van for sale. About how many bodies would it hold, er, I mean, uh, how much cargo space do you think it has?" Mom said "Oh, I, well, I, uh, I don't know".
