Please Help-Need Food Drive Info???
I am wondering if anyone can tell me if there are any laws against a church giving food away. I would like to coordinate a food drive, so that my church can give away food to needy families in November and December. We have never done this as a "program" and I am wondering if we need a special permit or anything else. Does it vary by state? FYI, my church is in Texas.
Has anyone been associated with such a thing in the past that can give me some information, or pointers? Thanks, Bro. Jason |

In my limited experience, non perishables are ok, perishables have more limitations, and prepared foods have other rules governing them.
i'd start by calling the city hall, health dept, local university extension office, and if those don't work, try United Way. Any of them should be able to point you in the right direction and give you tips for your area. |

also "second harvest" or whatever your local food bank calls itself. you should speak to the director.
