goofy question
Let us suppose that some kind of "modesty craze" happened and worldly people started dressing like ultra con holiness standard people. What would the UC pastors tell thier people to wear since "we don't look like the world or dress like them."?
yeah, I'm bored and when I am my mind goes into warped drive.:nutso :doggyrun |
Re: goofy question
As opposed to warp drive?

Re: goofy question
I never understood the 'we don't dress like the world' idea since skirts and dresses are made by worldly designers and not Apostolic ones!!

Re: goofy question
I can only agree with the warped drive part

Re: goofy question
A couple of thoughts on that:
A few years ago "maxi coats' and "maxi dresses" became popular. One local pastor considered maxi coats "worldly" until his daughter got one. Quite a few years ago "colored" hose (as opposed to sheer stockings) became popular. One preacher commented that if he had preached that the ladies in the church had to wear them, they would have rebelled. But because they became popular, the ladies began to wear them. Back in the late nineteen fifties or early sixties one Easter "sack" dresses were the rage --in the world and, of course, in the church. One pastor in Chicago preached a sermon on "The Sin of the Sack." Actually, they were baggy and did not reveal a woman's shape so you'd a thought preachers woulda liked them. I've been around a while and have seen things come and go and I realize that lots of our "holiness" preaching is kinda silly. I remember when mustaches were not an issue in our churches (neither White or African American). Then later on facial hair became an issue in some white churches. Now it's even OK on the platform at GC. Same with sideburns. Look at some of the old timers with their sideburns. Then sideburns went away. Then they came back and one local preacher told his members that sideburns could only go as low as where the ear wax comes out. Now, who even pays attention to sideburn length? |

BTW, whatever happened to the "straight edge" fad? :doggyrun |
Re: goofy question
Last year I went to a UACoJC camp meeting in Ohio.
Lots of ladies were wearing flip flops. Years ago that would be unthinkable at the UPC church where I used to go. |
