Our wedding ceremony was on a Friday night February 28, 1958.
I was 20 years old and my bride, Pat, was 16. We had to have a parent sign for us to get married. The wedding took place in her grandmother's parlor. That room was only used for special occasions. I don't think I had ever been in that room before nor since. Pat's grandfather "officiated." He was quite old and had poor eyesight so he had everything written out in very large letters. Pat wanted us to stand at one end of the room but he had us stand over to the side near a lamp so he could see what he had written out. We both had wedding rings and Pat wanted a "double ring" ceremony. When she mentioned that to him he said he had an appointment afterward and didn't have much time so we could just go ahead and put on our rings after the ceremony. My parents and brother came from Wisconsin. Pat's Dad and little brother were there. Of course Pat's grandparents were there. Pat's cousin was the maid of honor and her cousin's boyfriend was the best man. We didn't have a car so after the ceremony Pat's father dropped off her grandfather for his preaching appointment, we came back to her father's house for some sandwiches, then her father dropped us off at a hotel for our "honeymoon." It wasn't glamorous or romantic but we're still together. |
Re: Was your marriage ceremony....
I have never liked the Here comes the Bride march and the slow walk thing. My wife & I did not do that.
BUT does no one find it a little disturbing that they almost turned this church into a disco? All that was missing was a strobe light and DJ! Not to mention their frivolity when they are about to enter into a holy covenant. Of course the "blood" of the marriage covenant had probably already been shed...most American couples cannot contain their lust, or they do not know that sex before marriage is sin and do not care. |

This makes me smile.
I did wear a Mickey Mouse vest. |

Our wedding was in Vegas and while the ceremony itself was very traditional, it was also only 10 minutes long and after we spent 30 minutes getting some pictures taken, the whole party got to walk across the entire length of the MGM Grands casino floor to the Rainforest Cafe were we ate. It was a blast and we WOULD do it again. :) I also loved their song selection in the video. |
