Do You Agree with This?
 
Below is an excerpt from my syllabus. Do you agree or disagree with the last statement of this excerpt? Why or why not?


The big questions in relation to baptism are: “How?” and “To whom?”

a. How should the church baptize?
a. Historically the church has employed three modes, each with slightly different theological connotations.
i. immersion—Symbolically, the believer is buried and raised with Christ (in his death and resurrection; see Romans 6:3, 4).
ii. pouring—Symbolically, the believer receives the outpouring of the Holy Spirit (see Joel 2:28).
iii. sprinkling—Symbolically, the believer has the blood of Jesus sprinkled upon her (see I Peter 1:2, Ezekiel 36:25).


(All three modes of baptism carry the symbolism of washing (Acts 22:16, Titus 3:5, 1 Peter 3:21).

All three modes are INTENDED to signify washing, however, baptism is truly done by immersion due to the burial aspect as well. It's more than washing, I believe.

Of course I agree with the Bible.

I prefer and believe that the Bible makes the strongest case for Gentiles to be baptized via immersion, with the Name of Jesus Christ SPECIFICALLY mentioned.

"Upon her..." ??? Heh! How Politically Correct. Why not use a plural in the sentence and say "them?" Is it really necessary to perpetuate an error by simply doing the opposite of the original act of non-inclusion?

Oh. Don't forget the Jews need to be baptized also.

Hey. Maybe it's only women that need to be saved! 1 Timothy 2:14, "And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression." :winkgrin

I was buried with Him in baptism. Buriel is not sprinkling dirt on the body.

That verse only says Adam knew better and chose wrong knowingly. Eve didn't. :(
