The Great Commission
OK, this thought struck me this morning and I just want your take on it.
Matthew 28:18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Matthew 28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. Mark 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. Mark 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. IF a church preaches multiple evangelistic messages (Acts 2:38) and intersperses them sporadically with teachings on how to dress and the rapture, and sometimes hits a few parables (relating them to one of the topics above) are they truly obeying the verses above? |

First off Jesus never did teach or command anything to do with how we dress, or for that matter what we call the rapture. And the gospel is not Acts 2:28. The Gospel is the good news that Jesus became the way back into relationship with God. I once had a long discustion with the pastor I was raised under. He preached 5 things, church attendance, standards of holiness, oneness of the godhead, baptism in Jesus name, and Tithe and offering. He ask me what else there was to preach, I told him we have the whole bible. See I told him that we did not need to preach all those things that God had a way to show each person the right way is they had Gods spirit. I they did not have Gods spirit then making them obey something did not make them right with God. |
