We live about 14 miles east of Plano, TX. It's melting as fast as it came. Temp. last night was 30 degrees. Today it's 35 degrees. Reports say 27 deg. for tonight. It doesn't seem to last, it just came to pass!! Falla39 |

It came through here about 2 am. The children had a blast playing in it.

Re: Rare Storm Cripples The South
Hey guys, welcome to a real winter, but it must be very hard on an area not used to snow and not equiped to handle it. Up here in Newfoundland, that much snow would slow us down a little, but not stop us. But then we're equiped, everyone has snow shovels, snow blowers, every city has all kinds of snow moving equipment, and all cars, by law, must have on snow tires, and here they are studded. I bet the children loved it though! I think you got some of our snow, we didn't get much at all this year, and every blizzard was followed by mild temps and rain. Good luck with it though!

The good thing about the south is it usually thaws pretty fast. :)

Re: Rare Storm Cripples The South
I hear ya, I wish it would melt fast here, we often get our first snowfall in October, and the last one in May. Having snow around for 6 months isn't unusual, what we have this year is, no snow until January, and it doesn't stay. We had only 3 snowfalls worth calling a snowfall. Here under 6 inches is just a dusting. LOL

I had to laugh a little at shutting roads down for two inches. Two inches just turns to slush when you drive in it, and I can't imagine shutting down a road for two inches... whether it gets plowed or not. My daughter who just got her license this last summer, was driving all over town in our recent snow of 10 inches. (on top of what was already there) I told her that in warmer climates, there are men who wouldn't drive in this snow...she took to the snow like a duck in water. I couldn't help but compare how those in the south react to snow. My girls were out of school for two days, so she took me to work, so she could go to the park and play in the stuff. City school kids have fun with snow days because they are really out of school because of the country roads that drift being in the open spaces...not because we can't get them to school. I think lots of kids all over the place got to experience some type of snow fall this year. :thumbsup |

I was blown away that my friend in OKC had a foot of snow for Christmas and they don't usually have snow, usually just ice. We had a dry Christmas. |
