Enseyian Logic: God Made Mistake with Facial Hair
In JR Ensey's new March blog edition, in addition to another emergent rant, JR, asks some poignant questions

Did God make a mistake, JR, in allowing facial hair to grow naturally on our faces? A cosmic tease? Were OT and NT men living behind "masks"? And does he think that this study is why King George doesn't allow his ballplayers to wear facial hair? Are these books flying of the shelves? Are you SERIOUS? |
Re: Enseyian Logic: God Made Mistake with Facial H
It really, really, really bugs me that men are supposed to look to the world to see what is acceptable, and copy that. But, women are not. Women are forbidden from "looking like the world".
This facial hair thing is one of the most glaring double-standards ever. |

His assertion that God wants us to look as good as we are ... goes back to what you have said about the obsession over"the look", in the previous posts. These men have a 1950's snapshot of what Apostolic looks and dresses like, for all time, and have confused it with the Holiness of the Almighty. Is Papa Gray ... hiding behind a mask, Elder Ensey? He's the conservative ... YOU'RE THE LIBERAL! http://photos-b.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-...32_5358611.jpg And while we're at it ... why is it we don't find a record of Apostolic women "reminding" God of their uncut hair vows anywhere in the Wesleyan tradition? Does this facial hair standard apply to Apostolics of other cultures as well? |

If women must have long, uncut hair and wear skirts because God cares about the distinction between the sexes..... what is more distinctly masculine than a beard?

Abraham would think us manly men without beards are a bunch of sissies without whiskers. Distinction seems to apply to woman only in this culture ... it breeds sexism, imo. |

After reading the blog entry, he makes valid points for his position. It is not a position I take, but those are his reasonings and they are perfectly valid for him.
I have had a feeling growing lately, however, that if we really believe in women and men looking different, then facial hair should be acceptable, even encouraged for men. It is perfectly natural, the vast majority of women do not have it, and would further enhance the distinction of a man and woman. One might go as far say that a man shaving his face causes him to look more feminine. |
