Learn to Run on Empty
Stop trusting in personal ability and worldly systems. Realize that an empty fuel tank, empty wallet, and a barren cupboard is fertile ground for a miracle. Give your lack to Jesus. Trust in God to supply what you need instead of making yourself crazy with worry.

Here's a little outline of something I preached last week. It's not the full sermon, of course.

Running on Empty
Luke 1:53 says, "he has filled the hungry with good things, and sent the rich away empty." 1. Service There are times when spiritual battles and the cares of life leave us feeling drained and exhausted. We find ourselves running on empty, barely managing to make it from obligation to obligation, existing in an atmosphere of lack instead of promise. • Empty prayers • Empty praise • Empty worship 2. Resources During these times of lack we experience… Empty pockets Empty pews Empty expectations Empty relationships 3. God fills empty things. It’s what He does. Empty earth (Creation) Genesis 1-2 Empty vessels (Wedding Feast) John 2:1-11 Empty barrel (Elisha and the widow) I Kings 4:1-7 Empty stable (The birth of Jesus) Luke 4. God wants us to give our emptiness to Him. Doing so is an expression of trust and faith. This gives the term “running on empty” a whole new meaning. In essence, we ignore our own lack of fuel and resources because faith tells us that as we do what God asks, the power we need to operate will be given by God. |
