Everyone is saved in Obituaries
 

Had a recent discussion about this.

Have you ever read an Obituary that said; John Doe was a DIRT BAG, cussed, smoked, and lived like the Devil. Never went to Church, told nothing but lies, smoked medical marijuana, and loved to do the "Jungle Boogie". He for sure didn't make it, and is probably shoveling coal about now and getting what he deserved!

Nope. Everyone is saved in the Obit's.

So, there is hope for me!! :largehalo

Did you hear about the woman who was sitting on the front row in the funeral chapel, with her children, while the preacher was eulogizing her dead husband? The preacher kept talking about how great he was, so up standing in the community, loved everyone, always helping others. A Christian above all others.

Finally the wife punched one of her kids and said, "Slip up there and see if that's your dad in that coffin!" :ursofunny

On a more serious note, if we are so certain about the Salvation Equation, why doesn't the Clergy send people to Hell, just like they send them to Heaven?

In all the years I've been in the Apostolic Church, I've never been to a Funeral where Hell was even mentioned.

Because the funeral is for those left behind, not for the deceased. Would it really help a grieving family member to hear someone say, "this scumbag is going to hell?" That would be cruel, and unnecessary.

Most people know what kind life the dead person lived, but if it helps them get through a horrible time to gloss it over, what does it harm? Most of the funerals that I have been to where the person lived, at the least, a questionable life, the preacher will usually just say something like "they are in God's hands now" and focus on whatever good the person has done in their life.

I have no problem with that, because the reality is, they ARE in God's hands, it is up to Him to pass judgement, and I am very, very happy that it is His job, and not mine.

Here lies John Doe who was faithful to church, tithes and offerings, and was seeking the Holy Ghost in the alter every week of his adult life. He never was able to speak in tongues, so unfortunately his reward is not something we can rejoice about today!

I agree with you. I've preformed Funerals, and the grieving family must be comforted. And yes, I'm so glad God takes care of the judging.

I guess it's the "Certain" part that bothers me. We become so "Certain" about the Saved, Lost, issue while people are alive, but when they die something changes in us. Especially when it's someone who was very close to us, or who we loved deeply.
