Jim Sleeva appreciation thread

Anyone who went to IBC knows him.

The reason im highlighting this man is that many other threads focus on people who are out there to get their reward now either in money or applause.

Jim Sleeva was a AIMer to Germany who ministered at Ramstein airforce base, ministered to the Eastern block, smuggled in bibles/tracts and has been a minister at Calvary Indy for almost 2 decades. He is literally the spiritual backbone of IBC. He has been the mens dorm supervisor for almost 20 years.

He literally shapes many of the young ministers who come to IBC. he takes the time to counsel young men and give them wisdom when they are on the edge of making ministry killing mistakes at times. He does it very quietly and has most likely helped dozens if not hundreds of young ministers see a example of a 100% selfless christian.

You never heard of him if you haven't been to IBC. But he is one of the great unknown shapers of a hundred churches that are either being planted or will be planted by his influence on up and coming ministers. His connection to the spiritual gifts are awesome, he works in knowledge, wisdom, discernment, healing and miracles. He isnt married and most likely never will by choice (and yes hes a mans man).

He is one of my examples I can always go to when I want to picture what its like to be a deeply mature christian.

p.s. I did this because i'd rather than a Jim Sleeva than a showboat evangelist type of guy any day of the week.

Thank you for that post.
I've never been to IBC and have no idea who the person you are talking about is.
But, it's good to see positive things said about ministers when we so often hear just the bad and the negative.

In Acts 13:25 the Apostle Paul speaks about John the Baptizer fulfilling his course. In verse 36 he mentions David serving his generation. In 2 Timothy 4:7 as Paul looks back over his life and toward his impending death, he says, "I have finished my course."

I believe God has a plan for each of us --a course-- something He wants for us to do for Him. The Purpose Driven Life emphasizes this.

Evidently Jim Sleeva has found his course, the way he is to serve his generation, and he is doing it well.

We tend to notice the hot dog singers and preachers and some times slobber and fall all over ourselves as we make them our idols. But, there is a large company of people who quietly serve God unnoticed by the multitude.

Thank God for that company of "real" servants of God. It is my opinion that they are the ones whose works will be revealed as gold, silver and precious stones at the bema judgment seat of Christ while others will just stand there knee deep in ashes with empty hands as their wood, hay, and stubble are burnt up.

I just saw Jim a few weeks back in St. Louis. He's friends with my former husband's family and was at their mom's funeral.

He's meant a lot to them through the years and I got to know him too.

Great guy that loves people!

I browse this site often, but finally registered just so I could respond. I second everything you said, an incredible man of God. If you get a couple of IBC Alumni together their talk usually ends up on Bro. Sleeva. He has impacted countless lives.

God doesn't look on the length of the Sleevas, He looks on the heart!
