The Prayer of Manasseh
I don't know how many of you have a Bible which includes The Prayer of Manasseh or how many of you have read it. It appears in different places in different versions of the Bible. In my 1611 King James Version it is called The Prayer of Manasses King of Judah and it appears right before 1 Maccabees. That's also where it appears in the New English Bible (NEB). In my New Revised Standard Version (NRSV) it is between 2 and 3 Maccabees.
In 2 Chronicles 33:12-13 it mentions Manasseh praying and being restored by the Lord. 2 Chronicles 33:18 references Manasseh and his prayer where it says: "Now the rest of the acts of Manasseh, his prayer to his God, and the words of the seers who spoke to him in the name of the LORD God of Israel, indeed they are written in the book of the kings of Israel." However, the prayer does not appear in some versions of the Bible. Someone on another forum that I am a part of has taken the passages in Scripture in 2 Kings 18, 2 Chronicles 33, and the Prayer of Manasseh and arranged them in order and posted his work at http://www.summascriptura.com/html/manasseh/ |
