Snopes.com ...... Yeah! Who said?

Who checks to see if Snopes.com has their facts right?

Who made them the final say on any and all subjects as to their being true or false?

Just wondering!

My husband was just talking about this last week!!!! Snopes is run by a husband and wife team, and basically they try to fact check everything. The TRUTH is, they could be wrong. :)

It would be interesting to know if they have gotten things wrong. I guess someone needs to check the fact checkers. And then who would check the checker of the fact checkers? lol :neener

Yes, but when you receive an email of a poor kid with a rare disease and they need money for insurance.....or if you receive an email with the latest cure for cancer.....or the email that tells you what time of the day to put gas in your car....or the email telling you how to make a billion dollars from bill Gates by passing on an en email about beta-testing....

They're right!!

Actually, I think Snopes is great. I often refer to them to double check urban legends and chain emails.

It's just comical to me, because I've been one of their biggest fans, recommending them to everyone, and refusing to accept stories as true until I had checked them out at Snopes. Discovering they're run by regular people was sort of a let down. :toofunny

(I don't know who I thought was behind it...maybe robots??? :D)

You could always check out the source links they reference in their articles, or independently check their statements. Same as with most websites.

I would hate to be around for some of their marital arguments, lol. Facts and fact checking flying left and right!. lol

I use them for some things, but it is pretty easy to google and see where they get their information from. They are usually pretty good.

Yep. They usually provide links to every piece of information that leads them to their conclusion.

There's actually a much more reliable way to authenticate an email. If you receive something that says, "Pass this on to 20 people", you can automatically discredit everything it claims.:lol

In the same vein, look in the address box, if you see it has been sent to 20+ addresses already, there is a good chance you should disregard. Or at least refute. lol
