Re: Apostolic Minister/State Rep. voted for AZ bil
Is this the bill that allows law enforcement to check the legal status of people they have stopped, cited or arrested for other reasons?
"B. FOR ANY LAWFUL CONTACT MADE BY A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIAL OR AGENCY 21 OF THIS STATE OR A COUNTY, CITY, TOWN OR OTHER POLITICAL SUBDIVISION OF THIS 22 STATE WHERE REASONABLE SUSPICION EXISTS THAT THE PERSON IS AN ALIEN WHO IS 23 UNLAWFULLY PRESENT IN THE UNITED STATES, A REASONABLE ATTEMPT SHALL BE MADE, 24 WHEN PRACTICABLE, TO DETERMINE THE IMMIGRATION STATUS OF THE PERSON. THE 25 PERSON'S IMMIGRATION STATUS SHALL BE VERIFIED WITH THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT 26 PURSUANT TO 8 UNITED STATES CODE SECTION 1373(c)." Okay...answered my own question. I'm not sure how this makes the pastor a hypocrite. It appears, from the story, that even though the pastor and his parents came here to escape El Salvador, presumably without entering the proper way, they did pursue citizenship once in the country. They didn't hide from the government, IOW. Am I missing something? I feel the article is very unfair. A pastor has an obligation to be an example to the congregation, and that includes being a law-abiding citizen. |

His parents granted religious asylum stands out to me....
I am well aware of the Civil War that ripped the nation of El Salvador.... however ... the situation there was not necessarily religious in nature ... as to require asylum on those grounds especially since most are Catholics ... If the Apostolic Assembly helped them get their papers makes me wonder ... if they came illegally and then the church helped them get their papers ... claming need of asylum. My Dad helped many get their papers .... often as religious workers ... while they were here already. |

I have to wonder if they, his parents, benifitted from the NACARA amnesty in the 1990s ....

Basically, he has voted to allow law enforcement to do their jobs. I don't think that necessarily means that he would personally report illegal aliens or worse, kick them out of the congregation.

Hmmm ... do I support or believe some article written by a person who spouts misinformation, uses MIA and Public Enemy as sources and doesn't know what the bill is;
Or do I support and believe an immigrant who did things right, has gone through naturalization and is a legislator who heard the arguments for and against the bill, received more information about the bill than anyone of us knows (certainly more than MIA, Public Enemy or the author of this garbage). No question I support the Legislator. Anyone who doesn't, either doesn't care about laws, thinks they're above laws and/or are for open borders and the reclaimation of the southwest by Mexico. Surely the Apostolic News could do better than spew lies.... |
