A deacon can be part of the UPCI or a board member? Here I was thinking someone had said it was a preachers only organization.

Well the churches aren't UPCI either is what they told me.

But I assume you have a specific case of this happening in mind?

I think this is a gray area - - each church/pastor decides that.

The simple answer would appear to be that those churches really wanted a preacher with a 2nd wife to be their pastor so they made an exception for him but thought it wasn't something that they thought should be made common practice.

There is another way a pastor may be remarried and still be argued to legitamately pastor. A pastor may have gotten remarried before he got in church. Many churches and christians won't see this as a problem.

Re: Just a question man??

The vast majority of "UPC" churches are not UPC. What I mean by that is, a church is NOT UPC unless it becomes affiliated. If it becomes affiliated, then it is ultimately under the control/oversight of the District. Different districts exercise varying degrees of control. The oversight really comes into play when the pastorate is vacant or the church closes.

Now, what you're talking about is different. Sometimes a person was divorced before they were saved, and since the scripture states that judgment begins at the "house of God" most interpret that to mean that whatever happened before you were saved is under the blood and doesn't count. :D

So, if you're saved, and you want to divorce and remarry, but don't want the restrictions, all ya gotta do is backslide, divorce, marry, get saved again, and voila! Deaconhood awaits!
