Very sad about this. Big time Love Alive IV fan. Hawkins family created a whole new paradigm for Gospel music.

Bishop Walter Hawkins was thee greatest gospel artist ever. His songs have substance and just minister to the heart like no other. He never changed his style to fit in this new era of gospel music. You can remember his songs even from the 1970's. You just don't get tired of his music. It is sad that he lost his battle with cancer but I'm sure he would not trade anything to come back to earth. This is Walter Hawkins last known public performance. It brought tears to my eyes. That voice of his still sounding strong even though he was in his last weeks of life. He left us with his many beautiful songs. May God comfort his family and church family.

WOW!

I was just thinking about him a couple of days ago and I didn't even know he was ill!

Terrible loss!!!

His music is still very encouraging to me-- some of it more than 30 years old!

I saw him and Edwin months ago at a live recording. He looked thin but healthy. I was shocked when I heard the news of him passing on due to cancer. It's true some of his music is 30 years old but still very encouraging. I was told they are looking for a big place that can hold a lot of people. WH church is not big enough to hold hundreds of people.
