Could Jesus have sinned?

This should spurn good discussions on the nature of Christ. Do we have a biblical answer for this unorthodox question?

It is actually a common question. Potentially, yes. Prophetically-based, no.

His humanity had to walk after the Spirit as much as ours does in order to not fulfill the lusts of the flesh. He was tempted. That means a part of him wanted to sin.

I read an interesting written debate on this subject that basically affirmed that because it was predetermined that Christ would be the perfect sinless sacrifice, then although the potential may have been there to sin, there actually wasn't a chance that Christ would sin.

Agreed. :thumbsup
He was the perfect man only because He walked "in the Spirit". Tempted like we are means the potential was always there.
I believe that Jesus understood (hey, He authored it!) every OT verse that prophesied of his humanity and perfection. He knew He was destined (my word) for perfection, but had the same struggle against the lusts of the flesh that we struggle with. His humanity was not above the weakness of temptation.
So prophetically, He could not have sinned.

Hi,

A brother in the Lord gave me the following scripture in the OT that says he could have sinned, as Bro Blume said written in 2 Sam. 7:12-14.

Some say that was speaking of David, but no it wasn't IMHO. Because David is not the builder of the house of God, Christ is.

But he didn't also according to scripture written in 1Pet. 2:22 just as Bro. Blume also said, which was because that was also prophesied as well. Which I had never really thought of before until now. But find it interesting to know.

meaning God prophesied, or spoke into existance his own coming in flesh, as well as the ability to withstand the temptation not to sin, never doing so too.

:bliss

Pretty smart of God to do so wasn't it? :yourock

Re: Could Jesus have sinned?

he could have ,because he was tempted in all points as we are yet without sin. ] that means his flesh desire wanted to sin ,, but he had enough will power to say no!i must please god!he made his flesh desires take a back seat to the will and plan of god . PRAISE JESUS. now thats a pattern to follow!

Was it very difficult for God to resist temptation?

god cannot be tempted with evil neither tempteth he any man .

JESUS of nazereth was the meditor BETWEEN -- god --and --man----he wasnt half man and half god ,,he wasnt all god and all man.. he was gods son!
