Not So Fast...

Don't be too quick to judge that teenager who is doing something with his cell phone in church.

He may not be playing games.
He may not be flirting with that girl a couple of rows in front of him.
He may not be planning after service activity with friends.
He might be following the sermon with the Bible on his phone.

Or following the preacher's instructions.

THEN other ministers (one from Lake Charles, last name of Smith) started asking people to TEXT in to him if you had received the Holy Ghost . . .

Or if he is in Mark Driscoll's church, he might be sending in questions for Driscoll to answer.

Re: Not So Fast...

On my phone I have seven Bibles, a commentary (more coming), two dictionaries (three more to be added), thirty reference books, Greek and Hebrew dictionaries and lexicons, plus two note pads, one for verse (Bible) notes and one for general sermon comment notes.

Of course, some preachers take a personal exception to me validating their doctrines (teaching/preaching) against the word of God, while other actually encourage my attention to scriptural detail. I shall continue to check what I am being offered, even from those I know and trust.

I remember being rebuked a few times just for looking stuff up in my Bible during a sermon, back in the day before the electronic media became so prevalent.

What's with the new avatar, Twispy? I'm confused by it.

May AD 51, recorded in Acts 17:10-12
10 And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews.
11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
12 Therefore many of them believed; also of honourable women which were Greeks, and of men, not a few.

When I first got saved, I joined a local Baptist Church.
Our pastor was educated at Moody Bible Institute and Wheaton college.
He used a well-marked and well-worn Scofield Bible and preached from it.
Most people in the congregation had Scofield Bibles and brought them to church. Back then Bibles were all KJV and had dark leather covers. As the pastor would preach and quote a scripture, you could hear the pages turning as people in the congregation followed the sermon---not a bad habit that was passed on to a young Christian who was attending there.
