See GC play "healed in the house" ??

Had me thinking about Parham, was he not a racist? From what I read he made Seymour sit outside during services, also refered to blacks as darkies.

They say UPC spurred on by rivals from houston, if I heard it right, but wasn't it formed from 2 orgs with race issues being one of the major reasons??

To be honest Im not sure what you are saying but here is what I understand

Parham seemed to have racist tendencies but it was also pretty much common then. It should be noted that his school was not exclusively for whites. Instead he treated blacks poorly as they were all treated during that time.

The PAW and some white orgs did combine for a short period of time and from what I understand race did have to do with their separation. You'll hear different stories but from the "white" side I heard one reason was they had a hard time reaching unsaved souls who would never set foot inside a black church/bi racial church/church that was associated with blacks.

I don't know of anything concerning the two groups that formed the UPC having race issues as a reason

I heard a white brother who was alive during that time state that indeed it was a race thing. They claimed if we have interacial worship that it would lead to interacial marriage.

GASP!!!!! God forbid!!!!!!

We should repent of our racism, and love all God's creation.

I have heard the same thing....

Different times, different mentalities.....truth is almost everybody has racism and prejudice in their background....it is never justified but should not reflect on the current state of affairs unless it continues to be practiced.

I just thought the play was a little of a sanitized version.

We all have prejudices, but outright racism is another level.

You have your own thread! :ursofunny

Might explain why there hasn't been too many comments - -- everyone has already commented, but usually that doesn't stop them from saying it all again!
