I have never gone wrong with Linksys, which is basically a budget Cisco router.

I just purchased one in that price range

http://www.netgear.com/home/products.../WNDR3400.aspx

Got it at Fry's for about 78$

the other netgear router I connected to this one wirelessly to serve as a repeater

It might be kinda hard to find it that low though. Some places are around 90. You could wait for a sale though, but this router rocks

Go to www.newegg.com and go to computer hardware/routers and select all routers under 75 bucks, then go for the one with highest egg rating.

That won't necessarily give him a router to do what he wants. It may give him a good router though :thumbsup
