Interesting Facts about US Consumption
•Americans constitute 5% of the world's population but consume 24% of the world's energy.
•On average, one American consumes as much energy as o 2 Japanese o 6 Mexicans o 13 Chinese o 31 Indians o 128 Bangladeshis o 307 Tanzanians o 370 Ethiopians •The population is projected to increase by nearly 130 million people - the equivalent of adding another four states the size of California - by the year 2050. •Forty percent of births are unintended. •Americans eat 815 billion calories of food each day - that's roughly 200 billion more than needed - enough to feed 80 million people. •Americans throw out 200,000 tons of edible food daily. •The average American generates 52 tons of garbage by age 75. •The average individual daily consumption of water is 159 gallons, while more than half the world's population lives on 25 gallons. •Fifty percent of the wetlands, 90% of the northwestern old-growth forests, and 99% of the tall-grass prairie have been destroyed in the last 200 years. •Eighty percent of the corn grown and 95% of the oats are fed to livestock. •Fifty-six percent of available farmland is used for beef production. •Every day an estimated nine square miles of rural land are lost to development. •There are more shopping malls than high schools. Reducing consumption without reducing use is a costly delusion. If undeveloped countries consumed at the same rate as the US, four complete planets the size of the Earth would be required. People who think that they have a right to such a life are quite mistaken. Americans eat 200 billion more calories per day than necessary -- enough to feed 80 million people. While millions of people around the world starve to death, Americans spend $30 billion a year on diet programs. One-third of the U.S. population is significantly overweight. |

Start off with energy. We produce a very large percentage of the worlds industrial goods and food which requires energy.
We are 1/4th of the world's GDP. Of course much of the energy goes into nitrogen for crop fertilizer. It is my understanding Inda and China can now create enough crops to feed all their hungry. That consumes energy. |

Coadie, weve had it good for a very long time, which is a blessing.
But we have become gluttonous and ungrateful. Its showing up in all kinds of ways - especially in our health. And then look at our fat little offspring. This is not right and as Christians lets not be caught up in the consumption fever that's so prevalent in the nation. We have to be more moderate in our consumption and we just cant keep defenging our greedy little appetites. Lets start doing something different :) |

No I speak for our fat little darlings that are the future of our nation. I am speaking for the stuffed goose like creatures we have become because OUR/Americans true religion has become more more more more more. Its not Christian to be that darn greedy. I am speaking as an 'oracle' - not a 'lorax' :) We will continue to suffer and decline if we dont cut back. I cant see Jesus having this in mind for his followers. Followers of Christ must do all things in moderation. |

All of these things will change drastically when the American economy collapses and the dollar goes defunct. When our economy is gone... no one can afford electricity and people are starving you can know that all of this has been remedied. |

Citizen, the future is yours. Things are about to change. I can't say how much, but I think we are at least going to see the late 70's inflation and interest rates all over again. Maybe even worse. We are already bankrupt, we just haven't admitted it yet. |

Re: Interesting Facts about US Consumption
Do you know that many Americans are overweight because we don't have ENOUGH money to spend on decent food? Very often, the lower the socioeconomic status, the higher the weight because foods like mac and cheese, which isn't very nutritious, is very cheap. Since many people are malnourished or undernourished, they eat more as their bodies crave food (nutrition) and they again eat the wrong kind of cheap calories and gain weight.
