Getting Ones Voice Back

I came down with some horrible stuff when I was in Texas a week or so ago. I'm better now but my voice is still gone. I was almost no use at all this past Sunday.

My instinct is to work my voice out and try to get it back but it seems the more I work the worse it gets.

So... does anyone have any pointers on how to get your voice back after a sickness that takes it out?

Yes - do not use it at all. This has happened to me before and it won't heal until you stop using it.

Sipping warm tea it good too.

Years ago this happened to me and I continue to talk and sing and ended up in speech therapy for a few weeks. To protect my vocal chords, my body was smart enough to switch to using my false vocal chords and I had to go to speech therapy to retrain my voice to use my regular vocal chords.

So, from then on whenever this happens I do as they told me to back then, but I didn't listen - - I rest my vocal chords.

Rest your voice.

Will do. The lack of positive results and increasing loss of voice was starting to tell me that even as hard headed as I am. :)

Scratch the tea - - - I'm reading an article now that says that's no good. Something warm is good, but not tea. I just always drink tea because I don't drink coffee.

I don't drink much coffee.

We used to drink Honey & Lemon. I might work with that.

WHen I put this thread up I was thinking "Renda will know what to do" :)

Thanks.

Too funny!

Well, the article supports what the therapist told me - - do not speak.

Well I've had it cranked up "trying" to sing to the top of my lungs with no good results. So, hopefully, your good advice has stopped me before I did too much harm.

You don't need to be completely speechless. A simply text-to-voice app on your Windows PC will have you sounding like Professor Hawkings in no time!
