I've given up. I decided to be happy they're there with their cell phones rather than not there at all. I actually had a guy on the second row have his phone ring, pick it up and loudly say, "Hello" while I was speaking. He stood up, walked to the lobby and where everyone in the building could hear as he walked, explained to his caller that he was in church and had to go to the lobby to talk. So I gave up. It's a war I'll never win. :lol |

Yep, I guess so. I've found that when we say something about turning off phones...and we've tried to do it in a humorous, non-confrontational way...that it'll work for that Sunday and maybe, if we're lucky, the next. But then it's right back where it was and I don't wanna bark about it every week. Recently, we had a guy...lifelong church guy in his 60's that should know better....have his watch alarm go off 3 Sundays in a row at 10:45, which is smack-dab in the middle of the message. He takes meds everyday at that time and it was his reminder. That was WAY worse than cell phones. For one thing, he's a little hard-of-hearing and the first Sunday, it went for a solid minute before it quit. Brutal. It made me appreciate phones ringing. |

Well, you could always put a little sign up to remind folks to turn them off or at least turn to silent. People just forget. |

We run an announcement video and have put it there. Again, effective for a week or two. You know what's interesting...and maybe God helps...I've never had a phone, pager, or alarm, go off at a crucial moment when the setting is intense. It's always been at a point where I could make a light-hearted comment about it, everyone laugh, the person not be embarrassed, and move on. Uh oh...I shouldn't have said that. Now it's gonna happen this Sunday! :lol |
