R. A. West

I am from WV and have really heard nothing about this brother until recently. He was mentioned on another thread but didn't get much feedback. Does anyone know anything about him. His doctrinal stance? Organizational affiliations? Anything about churches that he founded that are still active? I find it odd that I have never heard of him except for online.

He died in a motorcycle accident in 2002. One of his two sons now pastors his church or churches. I watched several video clips of him on youtube. Pretty interesting. Apparently he was a tent preacher who also had a telecast at some point. I don't know how widespread it was. I certainly never heard of it but perhaps it was regional.

He was well known enough in his area that the state legislature renamed a stretch of highway after him a few years after his death.

I wonder how successful the church / churches have been since his death. Churches that are built around strong personalities sometimes have problems continuing after they are gone.

I still have family in Mercer Co.

Most of my family left WVa in the 60's and 70's for better job ops in Ohio and MD.

However, my family line in WVa area goes back to the early 1800's. Before WVa was a state, my family was there.

I love West Virgina and southwestern VA. No place on earth like it!

I'm listening to a few of his videos on youtube. This is an interesting quote.

I'm not here just to tell you that Jesus is the head of the body, the church. He is the head of the body the church and the head of God and the fullness of the Godhead bodily...
