Perry Held Liable?

If Governor Perry (R) of Texas does not commute the scheduled execution of a Mexican immigrant convicted of rape and murder, will his inaction be a point of concern for voters on a national level, should he seek the GOP nomination for President?

I don't know if I should be concerned or not.

No one is arguing his innocence, but there appears there could be a break down in the "due process" concerning this case.

If there was a break down in due process for this immigrant, well it just causes me to pause, that's for sure.

Inaction ... as in not commuting the sentence? No. If he commuted the sentence it would be more of a concern than allowing it to proceed.

I'm not worried about it. The article mentions an advocacy group is upset because the Mexican Consulate wasn't notified. However, as the article points out, Texas isn't required to do so. The man had a lawyer so he had due process of our justice system, he wasn't denied that. Unfortunately for him, he brutally raped and murdered a teenage girl and evidence linked him to the crime.

No, he wouldn't be held liable. Texas is a capital punishment state. If you rape and murder, chances are you will be executed.

Why did they wait 17 years to bring the matter up? Was he an American or Mexican citizen?

Jermyn, the courts (up to and including the SCOTUS) are very protective of Due Process.

If this person was not treated properly by the system, the courts would have done something about it.

This is no due process issue. It is an issue of foreign nations making demands they have no right to make.

Mexico doesnt get a vote on this dudes guilt or innocence.

Perry will only be hurt by letting a rapist and murderer get away with it.

Every day you cut and paste news from Yahoo. Your extreme liberal agenda is noticed.

We are in America dude. If you don't want to be punished under our laws, don't do the crime here.
Your passion to disregard american sovereignnty is strange. We have a trial with a jury of peers. That means Americans on the Jury.
