Funny or Strange Sermons You Have Heard
Please don't turn this thread into a preacher bashing one! I thought it would be interesting for folks to share strange or funny sermons, sermon titles, stories in sermons, etc that they have heard in Pentecost.
I don't have a real knee slapper to start off with but today I remembered a sermon I heard while visiting a church I found amusing. The young evangelist preached a sermon on the premise of being thankful to God for what did NOT happen to you. The sermon was peppered with examples like "You did not get hit by a train today - so THANK GOD!!!!". He was really trying to wind the congregation up into a thanking frenzy for all of the bad things that could have happened to them but did not. I remember thinking to myself that there sure seemed to be a lot of tangible things we could give God praise and thanks for before resorting to being thankful for bad things that didn't happen! |

I heard a preacher years ago preach on Naaman, "Wash away the butts"!

I heard a sermon on "The Man Who Kissed the Door to Heaven"
and it was about Judas, the betrayer. |
Re: Funny or Strange Sermons You Have Heard
I have a great sermon on humility.
I'm just waiting for a big enough crowd to preach it to. |
Re: Funny or Strange Sermons You Have Heard
When we were Independent Apostolic - UC - We had a Camp meeting in Florida every year and Pastor T. J. Hurley (now UPC in Leesburg, FL) preached an illustrated message - with dirt, mud, slop, in a mudhole in front of the pulpit and his title was "GIVING THE PIGS A PERMANENT WAVE"! It was incredible and stuck with me from then 1983 or 84 until now. He is a powerful preacher!
He got IN the pig pen with his nice suit & white shirt and got mud and slop all over him. It was INCREDIBLE! NEVER FORGOT IT! |
