a God head question
What is your opinion about this scripture: Matt. 12:32
Awhosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come. thanks |
Re: a God head question
Its not hard to understand but mens traditions have obscured the truth. First off the Holy Spirit is simply the God of the Old Testament. The one Jesus called "Father".
1:18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost If we can grasp this we can move on. In the Old Testament it was an unforgivable sin to speak evil (blaspheme) against the name of YHWH. 24:10 And the son of an Israelitish woman, whose father was an Egyptian, went out among the children of Israel: and this son of the Israelitish woman and a man of Israel strove together in the camp; 24:11 And the Israelitish woman's son blasphemed the name of the Lord, and cursed. And they brought him unto Moses: (and his mother's name was Shelomith, the daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan. 24:12 And they put him in ward, that the mind of the LORD might be showed them. 24:13 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 24:14 Bring forth him that hath cursed without the camp; and let all that heard him lay their hands upon his head, and let all the congregation stone him. 24:15 And thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel, saying, Whosoever curseth his God shall bear his sin.24:16 And he that blasphemeth the name of the YHWH, he shall surely be put to death, and all the congregation shall certainly stone him: as well the stranger, as he that is born in the land, when he blasphemeth the name of the Lord, shall be put to death. Leviticus 24:10-15 Its right there in scripture. |
Re: a God head question

my students want to know if there is only one God why this scripture? |

12:29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord (YHWH) our God is one Lord: Mark 12:29 That was his God and his Father as to his humanity. The only God that exists anywhere in the Universe is YHWH. The oneness doctrine I believe is that Jesus IS that same YHWH existing beyond the incarnation. Or as we used to always say "in omnipresence". In the incarnation he is a man whose Father (YHWH) is greater than himself. In his deity he IS the YHWH of the Old Testament. The passage in Leviticus clearly teaches there was no forgiveness for blaspheming YHWH.....only the death penalty. Thats the only reference I know of that Jesus could have been drawing from. |

Re: a God head question
Sis Alvear, it is one person of God who manifested both as deity and humanity. The humanity cannot be blasphemed because it is humanity. Only deity can be blasphemed. It is the same reason Jesus slept, but at the same time God is said to never slumber nor sleep. So it is distinguishing what is being referred to: humanity or deity. Both are manifestations of the single person of God, though. It is for this same reason we cannot say GOD DIED. Humanity alone died. THE PERSON of the One God is the same person of the human being who was crucified. So the person experienced this through the human manifestation, but the deity did not.

Re: a God head question
I think my students (some of them) wanted to know why can you blaspheme God and Jesus but not the Holy Ghost if they are the same.
That is where they are stomped...I gave them my opinion...but always like to check opinion here. Thanks. |

When speaking against the Son of Man, Jesus the Christ, the Lamb of God, one isn't speaking against God Himself but that which proceeded from God. One isn't blaspheming deity. For example, one could speak against Abraham, David, Peter, Paul and Jesus and those persons, not being deity, wouldn't have the same consequences as speaking against, blaspheming, the Holy Spirit of God Himself. |
Re: a God head question
well..that was the basic answer I gave...just like to make sure. deity and humanity...
