traveling
We left our place Tuesday Morning about 11 and arrived in the state of Natal Tuesday night after 10...a long trip with bad roads and rain all the way. We felt like our daughter in law needed us. With the help of friends we gave them the ok on Monday morning to leave the jungle area and head toward her folks house in Rio Grande do North right out side of Natal. Her father was dying and calling for her. God kept him alive and she got to see him yet alive...The hospital let her and her brother they had picked up along the way go in. (The only christians of the family) They sang to him and read the Bible. Maybe 5 minutes or so after their visit he passed.
Since people are buried within 24 hours of death the funeral was yesterday... It has been a long tiring trip. We left right after the funeral drove a while and stopped for the night. We are dead tired...needless to say. Really we did not plan to go as we could not afford it but Gilene stayed with me and my mother the whole time she was sick and helped dress mother for her funeral...I just felt like I needed to be there for her... Even though we still have a long drive today...and with the roads so bad we will get home after dark however am glad we went. Seeds of the gospel were planted. It is often very hard to see results in the dark night of paganism that enshrouds many souls here...but we know that light is stronger than darkness... Please remember Gilene's family in prayer. They are very devout idol worshippers. I counted over 20 idols along with several pictures of catholic "saints" and things like that.... Candles were burning both in the tiny living room and the bedroom...Oh! The grossness of rituals that take and never give... Pray for our safety as we travel and for Gilene’s family. They will stay with them until sometime next week. Thanks for your prayers and support. In His Love on the Mission field...Sister Alvear |

Re: traveling
My heart is breaking for your daughter-in-law, Sister. But how blessed she is to have such wonderful "in-laws". I feel sure that the sacrifice you made to be there for her has been a huge encouragement. And now I am praying for you and your sweet husband as you continue to travel and that you will very soon get to get some REST :) Wish I was there. I would drive and let you both sleep. And I would give you a great big hug. But since that's not possible, this will have to do........... :hug4
