A Word of Wisdom
 

In a sermon yesterday, I heard the following wise statement:

"What a church wins people with, they win people to!"

As an example, he used a church using an outreach to help people with their debt issues. This is addressing a physical need, and might win people to your church.....as long as you focus on physical needs. Many times you lose these people when you try to turn the focus onto their spiritual needs.

I thought about the different UPC type churches that are promoting their church with pictures of every day people instead of holiness type people in their advertising. The bait and switch rarely works!

Actually, your explanation of what the quote says is much easier to understand than the quote itself.

Having said that, it is 100% the truth!

Thanks for asking! We've visited four out of five possible church choices for us. We don't want to make a decision until we've visited all five. The fifth church has a high bar to clear, as the church we visited last week was very impressive!

All of the churches are very good and are strong in certain areas. Two of the churches are reaching for a younger audience than someone of my vintage! *smile* In other words, I'm probably not "hip" enough!

You are only as hip as you allow yourself to be. Perhaps you need the anti-Christ Church... I mean a younger crowed. :thumbsup

That's why I had to put in an explanation! ha! His point was that the people won to a church by outreach gimmicks are won to those gimmicks. They haven't really been won unless they realize their need for God in their life.

None are UPC churches, but three have UPC in their roots.
